Itinerary,
Day 1,
Nairobi at 8.00 am to Nanyuki Mt Kenya base camp, which normally takes 4hrs drive, arriving Nanyuki at 12.00 ,then proceed to Mt Kenya National Park Sirimon gate, picnic lunch will be provided. After lunch, follow the track uphill for 9km,through the rain forest to reach Old Moses camp which is situated at 3,300m. The ascent from Sirimon gate to Old Moses is 690m.Dinner/overnight.
Day 2,
After breakfast, leave at 8.00 am, follow the direct route, until you reach the junction which goes to Likki North after one hour, from here the track becomes a path, and swings right and south round the head of a large valley, crossing several small streams to reach the crest of the ridge between the Otulili and Liki North Valleys, then into Mackinder’s valley ,continue walking until you get to Shiptons camp 4250m ,dinner/overnight (it normally takes 6-7 hrs. from Old Moses to Shipton’s).
You will have an extra day here for acclimatization and accessing the gears, dinner/overnight.
Day 4,
You will wake up at 2.00 o’clock where you will have tea and biscuits, then leave at 3.00 at night for Point Lenana, this is the third summit. This section is a long, hard slog, and the path is indistinct in places. Continue walking across the scree, until you come across Square tarn. From here continue up the south face of Point Lenana reaching the summit at 6.30 am, then after enjoying the views and taking pictures, descend down to Austrian hut 4750m,your base for climbing Batian.
Day 5,
Full day climbing Batian. Wake up at 4.00 am and have tea and biscuits and then leave at 5.00 am to the base of Nelion crossing the Lewis glacier which normally takes 1 and half hours. Start your climb at 7.00 am until you get to the top of Nelion at around mid-day, then traverse the gate of mist to Batian and then return to Nelion and continue abseiling down to the bottom about 18 ropes 50 meters, dinner/overnight at Mackinder’s Hut.
Day 6,
After breakfast descend via Naro-moru route to Meet station which normally takes 5 hrs. connect your transport back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.
